Instrument Rating//

The JAA Multi Engine Instrument Rating is a 55 hour course; this can be reduced to 50 hours if you already hold a Multi Engine rating on your Commercial Pilot Licence. The course enables you to make approaches in poor weather and fly in Class A airspace, and is typically one of the final hurdles in training for a commercial flying career. You will start your training in our state of the art FNPTII DA42 Simulator. Once you have achieved the required standard you will progress onto the aircraft and fly IFR routes on airways and make instrument approaches to some of the UK's largest regional and international airports. Flight time in the aircraft will either be 20 or 25 hours depending on whether you hold a Multi Engine CPL at the start of the course.

All applicants for an IR (A) must hold a JAA/UK PPL (A) or CPL (A), a UK issued FRTOL, have 50 hours cross country experience and be within the validity period of either the IR or ATPL theoretical examinations. CPL examinations are not valid. Training for the multi-engine piston land MEP (L) class rating should be completed before commencing IR (A) (flying) training. All applicants for a CPL (A) should be medically fit in accordance with JAR-FCL and hold a current JAR FCL Class 1 Medical Certificate.

AFT offer the IR course over a full time duration of 6 weeks.

We would be pleased to discuss with you the option to undertake the course on a part time basis.
